Waikoloa Beach Resort hosts the Great Waikoloa `Ukulele Festival each year as a way to showcase one of the state’s favorite and unique instruments. This festival is a terrific opportunity for all ages to immerse themselves in one small aspect of Hawai`i’s culture - by getting up close and personal with the `ukulele, learning how it is made, how to play the `ukulele and listening to songs played by talented artists. Since 2001, Roy and Kathy Sakuma have been keeping the `ukulele festival alive and well, bringing their talent and aloha to the annual festival. Each year the event showcases an afternoon and evening of Hawai`i’s finest `ukulele players, top Hawaiian entertainers and musicians at Queens’ MarketPlace. Residents and visitors will be delighted to stroll the mall and visit exhibit booths to learn how a lei is sewn or make Hawaiian implements and have an opportunity to make one for themselves. Stay tuned for a detailed schedule of events.
